Roots Exhibition
Roots (June 5th-June 25th)
The Midwest holds a special place in my heart. The essence of bucolic fields and buttermilk horizons is in my marrow. I’ve been inspired by this place for as long as I’ve been able to create. I’ve walked this same swatch of earth my whole life. I’ve grown with the trees and gathered morels and sweet mulberries with each spring. I’ve played in the Tippy with my sisters and marveled at the sheen of mussel shells. My great grandmother tended sheep in a meadow where central catholic now sits. My family is interwoven into the Irish district. Buried in its dark soil. I am a Farrell. A creature made from the earth and clay of Tippecanoe county.
My exhibition is filled with pieces that showcase mementos harvested from local forests, farmlands, and dry creeks. Woven treasures gathered from the banks of the Wabash and Tippy. The essence of my show is dedicated towards highlighting the beauty found within the Midwest via photography, metalwork, sculpture, found object artistry, and poetry.
Opening reception: June 5th (6:00-8:00pm)
Exhibition runtime: June 5th-June 25th
Gallery hours: Monday-Friday (9:00 am-5:00 pm)

“Creating with nature” 4 week course at TAF
(TAF’s sign up link will be posted closer to the time of the class. Please feel free to reach out with any questions)
“Join Lilwen Jones in her creative course dedicated towards instructing on the techniques used to craft artistry from the prairies, creeks, and forests of the Midwest.
You’ll be taught how to spot and forage for your own earthen materials. How to start building your own wild-smithing toolkit. And most importantly, how to honor your unique artistic style in each handcrafted piece you take home.
The curriculum will include sculpting beads made from flower petal clay, crafting charms from midwestern fossils and crystals, learning how to press and preserve local flora, and practicing the basic methods of “cold connection” copper-smithing.
This workshop is all about finding the beauty hidden within the earth around us and channeling that essence into wearable works of art. If you have a passion for nature and a desire to learn basic metalwork, than this is the creative course for you”

Time: 12:00 pm-1:30 pm
